Club History

Manchester United started out in Newton Heath more than a century ago. The club was originally known as the Newton Heath LYR. Over time, they moved from competing in the First Division to reach English football's highest league by the late 1800s. They are currently known as the Premier League team to beat.

Over their years of competition, they have repeatedly been recognised as champions, winning 20 League titles so far. While they still maintain a connection with Newton Heath, they have made their home at Old Trafford since 1910. Even during the unrest and unease of the World Wars, Man United continued to hold the values of sportsmanship and fair play high.

They pursued success, winning the F.A. Cup and maintaining leading positions in the top 4 leagues in the five years after the war. Sir Matt Busby took over the club's leadership in the 1950s and helped it to increase in popularity, gaining the love, loyalty and admiration of football fan worldwide.

Current Position

Louis van Gaal currently manages the team and he is under contract to do so until at least May 2017. Manchester United is currently among the top three teams in the Barclay's Premier League Table. They are ranked below Arsenal, with Manchester City taking the lead.
